Recently, three sequels have come. There is a lot common in them apart from being the third sequel itself. Spiderman 3, Shrek 3 and POC 3 follow the mega-successful predecessors. While Shrek 2 was consistently good with the original movie, other two were disappointing but still managed to pull crowds owing to the successes of the Spiderman 1 and POC 1. The people who had missed the first parts in theaters added to the extra crowd that was seen attracted to the screens for the sequels. And now the respective teams have launched yet another sequels and sadly enough, it seems they have concentrated only on the fact that original parts would be enough to get the crowds again. None of these 3 movies justify the very need of coming up with another sequel. Spiderman 3 was nothing short of a shockingly bad movie. Shrek 3 and POC 3 are still bearable but the loyal spectators are already considering not going for any more sequels of these.
POC 3 banks solely on Sparrow and Barbossa, their first mistake. Their second mistake is not learning from the mistakes of second sequel. The plot is equally if not more hazy and incomprehensibly complex. A rough plot jumping from one to another scene and innumerous betrayals leaves the audience in a total confusion. I wish there was more of the witty humor in Sparrow's character and certainly more of the monkey's scenes. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have not looked this bad or stupid ever before. Depp is consistent with whatever scope he has, which unfortunately isn't much. A crisper editing along with a simpler and clearer storyline could have done wonders but one can only wish it now. I am a loyal POC fan but nonetheless, I have been disappointed in the directors. Depp is the only consolation and he is as cute in saying 'Keep telling yourself that, darling' as he was earlier. A great character wasted indeed. You can like the movie slightly if you don't go with high expectations as I did. I knew that it would be like second part and so it is. I can watch Depp again and again but I admit that is no excuse for a movie which doesn't deliver up to its potential and expectations.
As for Spiderman, probably I am biased. I was totally irritated at the stupid scenes and ridiculous Toby Maguire. I guess I had already made up my mind that its hopeless and so I couldn't have found it any worse. I was so frustrated that my friend had to get out of the theater even before the climax though I must say that I've already heard enough blames for that. I can't help it if the movie is so stupid!
Regarding Shrek 3, it doesn't live up to the expectations created by its predecessors which were totally fabulous. Though its not as bad and has some good humor in between, its long and boring in between. I watched it on my laptop with lot of fast forwarding.
These movies have made me feel what a great feat Munnabhai team has achieved. Just when everyone thought Munnabhai MBBS cannot be bettered, Hirani came up with Lage Raho, which, in my opinion, is the most beautiful storyline I've seen in hindi movies. I am only eager for the third sequel and hope that number 3 will not prove the doom for this highly loved series.
