in the name of peace

jung to chand roz hoti hai..
zindagi barso talak roti hai..

sannate ki gehri chaaon,
khamoshi se jalte gaaon..
ye nadiyon par toote hue pul,
dharti ghayal aur vyakul
ye khet ghamon se jhulse hue,
ye khaali raste sehme hue..
ye maatam karta saara samaa,
ye jalte ghar ye kaala dhuan..

mere dushman, mere bhai, mere hamsaaye..
tujhse mujhse hum dono se ye jalte ghar kuch kehte hain..
barbaadi ke saare manzar kuch kehte hain..

was watching a television show in which singers from India n Pakistan were celebrating the independence day together. Apart from some outstanding performances, a strong emotion that the contestants gracefully carried through evinced some unfortunate circumstances that the neighboring countries have faced in past. It is banal to state that both have been victimized by misconceptions, misunderstanding, misjudgements and mostly mis-management.

I got to meet students from the land of Indus in past two years. All I can say is that I am glad to know that they are as 'normal' as we are. I am glad that I met them for I could not have expected to harbor such sensible friendship with people from a supposedly hostile land. I know that they are facing the same and perhaps greater internal problems at this time. It doesn't take much of patriotism to realise where our respective countries are heading in their relations. I sincerely hope of a better future for them and for us for we deserve it.
