Came to know y'day about the unfortunate demise of Dr. Hou. I am more grieved than shocked. I can only imagine the bereavement of her immediate students and family members. I did not get to interact with her a lot but I always felt we are from same group of some kind since she was a networking faculty at CS dept. I had seen her very often and was about to TA her course in fall 06, which she finally withdrew from due to her illness.
CS Professor Jennifer Hou remembered
She was a highly respected faculty at UIUC and shall always be remembered as a great person too. Things like these make me wonder what is the significance of life but then I know that it is precious and whatever time you have, do something that will keep you alive after you are gone. Dr. Hou might not be there anymore but her accomplishments in research and teaching will keep her alive among her dear students and people whose life she touched upon. It also makes me realize that there may not be enough time for one to make a difference and tell the people you care about how much you love them. And, it teaches how insignificant death is, it can only end what can be physically ended but it only makes your deeds immortal.
My utter grievances and condolences to her family.
