No one expected this level of tennis as early as 3rd day of Wimbledon. But, what a day it has been!
I am having at least 4 tabs open following tennis drama on grass courts right now. Damn, no streaming works and I am again dependent on exuberant fans posting on tennis.com but they are not at all disappointing me. BBC commentary is delightfully witty and tasteful. And to hell with the live scores, they are as slow as Manhattan traffic.
Quick results -
- Djokovic sent crashing by the vintage Marat in straight sets. I have like 5-10 tangy comments from the forums in my mind to paste here but the news itself needs no more spicying up. Marat, you made my day! Nole and his 'speaking too soon' fans, take a break guys.
- The real surprise of the day - Dechy holding on against No. 1 seed Ivanovic for over 3 hrs: 7-6,6-7,8-10. Sheer bad luck for the French, she deserved better. Crowd gave roaring applause for her efforts. The Serb came back from a lucky save at the match point to escape from the compatriot Nole's destiny. But if she wants to dominate the grass, she'll need more than luck in rest of the torunament.
- Federer is leading a set to love against the much-talked-about Soderling. No flaws in Fed's game till now, I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am surprised no comments yet on plumper-day-by-day Mirka.
The line of the day -
"Safin strides back to his chair, glugs down some reddish juice and stares moodily at the sky. Two clouds faint." : Third is me.
