I am not into politics, not because I hate it but because I don't understand it. However, some political figures have impressed me as people who knew how to use power. My appreciation of these personnels comes from the fact that they were more than politicians. One of the American politician to have aroused my interest is John F. Kennedy. I mainly got interested after reading 'The Fourth K' (it's fiction and not a biography) and many of the enigmatic aspects of K's life prod me to read about him in greater detail. One of the first thing that has caught my attention as I read about him is his book/thesis 'Why England slept' which gave him popularity even before entering formal politics. The book comes on parallel lines to 'While England slept' by Sir W Churchill. I do not know how openly the question, "Why didn't the world act to stop Hitler before he opened hostilities?" is discussed but I guess it should make an interesting study. [I have already requested the book from the library and am waiting to read it].
Most of the 'romance' associated with Kennedy is due more to the unfortunate death while he was still the Prez. The death, clouded with conspiracy and unsolved controversy, seems to had a huge impact on the youthful America (dunno why it reminds me of the death of Rajiv Gandhi and a blow on India).
On an ending note, I would just say that politics might have conceived a thousand of bas***** but whenever it has been blessed with 'powerful - thinking geniuses', world has had its hopes. I wont comment on goodness of any politicians because I understand that power corrupts, its just about how soon. But there has been people who have used their power in less rogue manner. There would always be some people loving and some hating any given politician. For Kennedy, his charm and ideas had a huge following. By the way, he does look handsome.
