the ever hungry: Grad Student

It was 5:10 when P called me as I was working in the lab.
"u wanna eat something?"
'umm...abhi? nahi yaar'
"arre, they are having something going on here at CSL, theres food. Khair dekh lo"
'Ohh, I dont know, but kahan pe hai?'
"3rd floor, n aana hai to jaldi aao, its bout to finish"

I kept working for 10 min more. Then finally giving in to my grad student instinct, I asked my fellow lab mates, "Hey, V and H, do u people wanna eat sthing?". They were about to shake their faces to say no when I added, "its something going on in CSL itself, we can go and checkout". Suddenly their faces lit up as they smiled, "OK, why not". As we 3 started to move out, I suggested asking W too, who's a post-doc and most silent person in our lab. He also gave in to the same (or may be stronger for a post doc) instinct as me and got up.

I and H went to other room to call our fellow labmates - Z and S. Z was all eager and came with full enthusiasm. However I dint see S coming, so I asked Z, "Is S not coming?". He replied, "Oh, he is not interested in free food". I heard many "Really??" in chorus as we rushed. We finally reached the venue but as P had warned, it was the site of a deserted warfront.

I saw P coming out as we were entering, "itna late aate hain kya, kuch bhi nahi bacha hai...sirf fruits and wo bhi khatm hone wale hain". With heavy hearts, we reached the tables. Z and W surveyed the left over grapes, 3 kind of drinks and hurriedly decided to leave. I, V and H went further. I picked up the golden drink after confirming with H that it was iced tea. We chatted among eachother and another CSLite friend. There were few profs dispersed and almost all the grad students had left finishing off their business.

I heard someone saying, 'Oh this is the reception after that ITI seminar'. I dont think anyone cared and was soon convinced when I saw the other person asking, 'But who is the speaker??'. So here we lost an opportunity. But I am sure the grad students's spirit doesnt give up that easily. And that reminds me, I am yet to attend an info session this semester, I am missing Papa Del's pizza!
