Welcome to London Heathrow, the worst international airport I have yet seen. Not that I boast of having seen a great number of airports nor am I saying that Delhi airport is magnificent but the inconvenience I have suffered at this busiest airport of UK has surpassed anything I've yet experienced in my short experience of international travel. LHR combined with British Airways is the worst combination you could have let yourself into. I've always faced double security check ins with insanely long lines, moron security officers and illogical procedures. Theres no limit of afflictions you might have in store once you step inside. God save me from any emergency that would make me book a flight through this goddamn airport again!
My first experience came in Dec 05. Not only did I miss my connecting BAA flight to India, all due to BAA faults, their uncooperative staff combined with no responsibility on their behalf had greatly infuriated me. But I had thought this is a mere one-time bad luck. The thing is that my flight from Chicago kept hovering right on top of Heathrow for 20 min and further delay precipitated when it could not find a gate. This delayed us by around half an hr and the connecting flight did not bother to wait for the incoming passengers hanging in mid air and left for Mumbai without us. After that the earliest connection that they were giving was via Egypt (yes, it sucked big time!) n Dubai. For one who is traveling international for just the second time and back home for the very first time, that was hell of a bad experience. The worst part was they did not inform my parents waiting anxiously at Mumbai inspite of my giving them the contact number and them promising that they would inform all the concerned receivers. I have no words for the bas****s. Anyways wounds were more or less healed after one and a half years before same scenarios reoccurred in front of my eyes. This time, my flight from Newark was circling around London for 30 min. But thank God, I had not made the mistake of booking a connecting flight within 2 hrs. So, here I am sitting in LHR and recollecting those awful experiences.
Its 3 am for my body and 8 am here. I have 2.5 hrs more to wait. Luckily I have a P G Wodehouse to accompany me.
so long...
