weekend reviews

Unusual for me, I saw 2 movies consecutively on friday n saturday night. And today, when I've made a good start at hacking the madwifi code, I wish to relax by writing the reviews for these.

I saw Pirates of the Carribean - Dead Man's Chest first. Somehow I'd been getting delayed at seeing this movie since its release last summer. First, my cruel and unsymapthetic friends in NY, then my laziness to get the dvd and finally more laziness even after downloading it :).
I was quite crazy about this movie and had to see it for 10 reasons -
i) I liked the first one in 2003
ii) I like thrillers of this kind ie pirates, war etc
iii) Its comedy which is totally attributable to Johnny Depp
iv) - x) Johnny Depp

I wudn't write stories about my adoration of Mr. Depp, I shall reserve it for a new blog.
Overall, Dead Man's Chest was good though not as good as its predecessor. I found it a bit long but JD again rules and is magnificent in every single frame. He plays the amazing Jack Sparrow whose character is slightly inspired from Keith Richards. I, myself, hadn't heard his name till the character of Jack Sparrow became so famous. And it appears that Keith is giving a guest appearance as JD's father in the unreleased third part of the POTC, named as At World's End. That should be some fun!
So altogether, Dead Man's Chest doesn't disappoint and JD is a treat to watch. Unfortunately, he dint bag a academy award nomination this time but that doesnt belittle his performance in the least. I know this is going too far but can't help scribing this - (Jack Sparrow to Will Turner) "Because the finding of this finds you incapacitorilly finding and/or locating in your discovering the detecting of a way to save your dolly belle, ol' what's-her-face. Savvy?"

The other movie I saw was 'The Devil Wears Prada'. I got interested in watching this movie after its oscar nominations and wasn't looking the typical boring oscar type movie. And, I did like it. Anne Hathaway was extremely cute and somehow I identified with many aspects of career-interests, conflicts and ideals shown in the movie. It made sense and that is the most important point. It was a decent watch and I would definitely recommend it for watching once. Neither too much tension, nor brutal action sequences make it a nice time pass when you are just trying to relax. It, however, misses a great climax or any grand moments, which makes it slightly less thrilling. And, it goes without saying, Meryl Streep is excellent in her role. Particularly, the scene when she reveals her divorce to Andy, you can just feel the dilemma between crushed hidden sentiments and her pride, more so because she doesnt want to admit to the fact that she is hurt and yet, her demeanor reveals it naked....it's too good. It's based on some novel by Lauren Weisberger. Rest of the details you can google coz I should sleep now.
And, btw, I liked its soundtrack too!

So, thats it, I've had a good weekend. Firstly, the movies were good and to put the cherry on the cake, I did some good work! :-) (A biiiiiiiiiig smile)

shabba khair!
